Welcome to my monthly newsletter! I’ll be sharing major writing and publishing news, stories I recommend checking out, and more.

Nebula Poetry Finalist!

My poem “To Be the Change”, published last March by Strange Horizons, is a finalist for the inaugural Nebula Award for Poetry!

“To Be the Change” was written out of trans rage. I wrote it a year and a half ago now wanting to explore how the very existence of trans people disrupts the systems we live within, something that (unfortunately) is more relevant than ever. At every turn this little poem has surprised and inspired me by the outpouring of support it’s received, and I am so grateful.

I’m thrilled to be in the company of so many incredible writers and poets on this ballot, with a particular shout-out to my fellow poetry finalists Linda D. Addison & Jamal Hodge, Casey Aimer, Jennifer Hudak, Angela Liu, and Mari Ness.

Hugo Eligibility: Poetry & Astounding Award

I hope you’ll consider my poems “To Be the Change” (Nebula finalist, Rhysling nominee, positively reviewed in Locus) and “Eagle-Eyed” (Rhysling nominee) for your Hugo Poetry Award nominations! Both are linked above.

I’m also in my first year of eligibility for the Astounding Award. My short fiction has been published by Apex, Worlds of Possibility, Factor Four Magazine, and Flame Tree Press, and my poetry appears in Strange Horizons, Heartlines Spec, Dreams & Nightmares, and Star*Line. I have over forty pieces published or upcoming in the next few months, all of which you can discover on my website (though I’ve linked some favorites for your consideration below!)

I’m a three-time Rhysling nominee and Nebula finalist; my work has been praised by Locus Magazine’s Charles Payseur.

If you’re willing to consider my work, I hope you’ll check out the following pieces in addition to my poems mentioned above. Nominations close on Saturday, March 28 at noon PT / 3pm ET!

  • “Don’t Hide From the Mirror” (100 words) in Apex Magazine - read here
